Welcome to Lacquer & Cloth!

Thanks for stopping by. This is my first blog post and I'm bursting with excitement and ambition! First, a quick intro. My name is Michell, and I live in the lovely and overpriced state of New Jersey.

That's me. My hair isn't normally pink, but I'm trying it out with hair chalk to see if I like it enough to go permanent. So far I'm really feeling it! I live in my own home with my guy and our cat. Most days you can find me hanging out in my craft room with a huge glass of water and whatever project (or two or three) sprawled out on my desk, music blasting, and a cat under my feet. I wouldn't want it any other way.

This little lump is Tigra. He's a pro at being in the way. The project he's sleeping on is a pair of lace shorts with a yoga style banded waist. My sewing machine broke during my last move so I wound up putting the project on hold until my machine is fixed, but please look forward to a future blog post about them!

And of course, a little about my blog. My love for nail art began after a 'last straw' manicure disaster at a generic nail salon. Too many times had I gone for simple french manicures or gel polish manicures only to leave disappointed and out of money. Whether it be from poor communication, cheap materials, or just simply bad technician skills, I had one too many bad experiences to keep me going back. So I did some research on my own (thank you, YouTube!) and began doing my nails at home. Not only did I like the results better, but I truly fell in love with the artistic freedom of Japanese nail art. Through lots of trial and error I've been adding to my skill set, and I hope to share my experiences here with you!

Only recently have I started sewing my own clothes, so I would consider myself an 'adventurous beginner'. Being a plus sized girl all my life, I've always had a hard time finding clothing that fit my curves. The newest fashion trends don't always carry over to the plus size sections, and I grew tired of wearing clothes just because they were the only ones in the store that fit. Frustrated and eager to learn, I picked up a sewing machine and a few yards of cloth, and after many trials, I came up with a few items I was proud to wear. I wish I would have had the knowledge and drive to make my own clothes sooner; the confidence and pride I feel when wearing something I've made for myself is truly an amazing feeling.

I started this blog to share my wins (and fails!), but more so to push myself to continue creating and learning. So now is the time to get off of Pintrest, out of my chair, and onto making!
